WORKING WITH A COACH

Engaging an executive coach may be the single most rewarding thing you do in your career. Such a step marks a commitment to excellence and a desire to thrive rather than just survive. It’s not easy – you’ll be challenged in ways you may have never been before as you confidently confront major obstacles. And you’ll soon discover that the rewards of realizing your potential more than make up for the hard work involved.

WHAT TO EXPECT

A coaching conversation is a discussion between peers. Your coach is available to guide and encourage you toward the top of your game. You remain in complete control of your destiny, as you work to identify core values, important goals, and powerful strategies that keep you moving forward. You’ll hold yourself accountable – challenged to always do what you say you will do – and bask in the self-satisfaction brought about by consistent achievement.

OUR COACHING PROCESS

We begin our work together with an explicit understanding of our mutual commitments, perceived obstacles, and desired outcomes. Our Leadership Vision Exercise provides critical inputs to clarify your professional goals, initiatives, and success measures. Our objective is to help you to think critically, realize the power of existing strengths, and adopt new behaviors that support goal achievement.

Next, we typically administer two primary assessments. The first, the VIA Character Strengths Survey, helps you to discover those values that, when properly aligned with your life and work, promote greater engagement and productivity. The second, a 360-degree Verbal Assessment, solicits input to learn about how others perceive you in your leadership role.

Continuing coaching sessions traverse a variety of paths driven by specific challenges and objectives. Each session begins with a client-set agenda with the goal of maximizing the value of our time spent together. Periodic progress checks, typically conducted with decreasing frequency as we approach a desired outcome, are used to promote accountability and encourage continuing progress toward professional growth.

Approximately three months after the initial engagement, we reconvene to discuss victories, disappointments and changes made as a result of working together. At this point, we often explore additional outcomes to be attained through self-directed work or follow-up coaching sessions.
